The CakeSafe Round Basic Essential Kit contains our 3 most popular Acrylic Disk sizes, 6”, 8”, and 10” along with 2 – 8″ Icing Scrapers with 1 Scraper Edge and 3 Cake Comb Patterns. Use this Kit to create sharp edges and smooth finishes and/or beautiful detailed patterns on all of your cakes! The perimeter size of this Basic Essential Kit is the .5”. These .5” Acrylic Disks are typically used by bakers whose cakes do not shrink, and who are not using fondant. In order to determine which size Acrylic Disk is best for your cake, measure your baked cakes and the bottom of your cake pans before ordering. Our general rule of thumb when it comes to choosing the best size Acrylic Disk is: .5″ SIZING: For cakes that shrink LESS than 1/8″ (or not at all,) AND you are NOT planning to cover with fondant (.5″IS THE SIZING YOU ARE RECEIVING WHEN ORDERING THIS PRODUCT) .25 SIZING: For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/8″ OR cakes that do not shrink, but you are planning to cover with fondant. .00″ SIZING For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/4″ OR your cakes do not shrink and you are designing a “naked” cake. The 3/8″ center hole in all of our Acrylic Disks help bakers to center their cake tiers on the disks by using a temporary dowel as they ice. If you do not chill your cakes before icing with the disks, you can put a temporary dowel through the disks and cake to make sure your layers do not shift. The center holes do not affect the performance of the disks, should you choose not to use them. In addition to the 3 sets of Acrylic Disks, this Basic Essential kit comes with 2 8” Icing Scrapers, with 1 straight edge for perfect smooth sides and 3 Cake Comb patterns for beautiful detailed designs for your cakes. Bakers prefer CakeSafe’s Icing Scrapers because they are clear so you can see what’s happening to your icing on the other side of the scraper as you’re working. Handle with care. All Acrylic Disks have a PROTECTIVE PLASTIC layer which must be removed to reveal your Brand New Crystal Clear Disks. After peeling the plastic, rinse them before using.
